EyeTech DS, Tobii, and Intel Team up with Microsoft Corp. to Release USB HID Standard for Eye Tracking and Support for Windows 10
Microsoft Corp., working closely with EyeTech DS, Tobii and Intel, has created the first USB HID (Human Interface Device) standard for eye tracking. Having a standard agreed upon by USB.org, brings eye tracking technology one step closer to being in full control of your PC using only your eyes.
With the standard established, Windows 10 will automatically install the driver when plugging in the eye tracker. In addition, a calibration app can be launched directly from the Windows 10 eye control launchpad. New firmware to enable this feature for the EyeTech DS TM5 eye trackers is available at www.eyetechds.com/Microsoft-HID-Support.html.
"The USB HID class for eye tracking is the pivotal step forward to improve the user experience for our users and bring a seamless touch-free experience for worldwide adoption," said Keith Jackson, Director of Sales and Marketing for EyeTech DS.
EyeTech DS and Tobii are showcasing eye control applications inside Windows 10 in the Microsoft developer booth at Microsoft Build 2018 this week. This is a big step forward to help developers catch the vision of eye tracking as a viable, robust input method.

What if your car could tell if you’re happy, sad, or too tired or impaired to drive?
EyeTechDS Inc. visual tracking software uses occulometrics track eye movement and pupil dilation gauging the drivers attention or lack thereof while driving. Noldus Facial recognition software recognizes a smile or slack facial expressions, head pose, eye perclose and many other useful metrics which will be helpful for ADAS. Results are graphed to show a drivers attention and emotions while behind the wheel.
Noldus “FaceReader automatically analyzes 6 basic facial expressions, neutral, contempt, and boredom, interest, and confusion.”1 Widely used in marketing application FaceReader is able to “quickly gain insight into the effects of different stimuli.”1
Potential application include luxury auto manufacturers who will be able to accurately gauge a level of satisfaction and distractions from the driving experience, while restricted drivers could have more than a simple breathalyzer restricting their cars from starting. Further advancements in automated driving could tell the car when it's time to take over driving to deliver passengers to a safe location eliminating falling asleep behind the wheel.

Concussion is a traumatic brain injury that affects your brain function. Effects are usually temporary but can include headaches and problems with concentration, memory, balance and coordination.1
Current scientific methods to quickly assess for a potential concussion include the King-Devick Test (K-D Test) of rapid number naming which requires eye movements as well as attention, language, concentration and other areas whose functions correlate with suboptimal brain function.2 Eye tracking technology combined with the K-D Test brings more quantitative tools to brain injury management.3 Utilizing EyeTechDS Inc. technology, the King-Devick Eye Tracking System’s real-time automated data measurement and visualizations of eye movements provides a detailed assessment of oculomotor function during performance of the King-Devick Test allowing for quantification of injury severity and recovery progression.4
