EyeTech Digital Systems is excited to collaborate with Mayo Clinic in the development of the OCAT, Oculo Cognitive Addition Test. Working in oculometrics where direct physiological signs of cognitive activity have been identified, the team of scientists at Mayo Clinic’s Aerospace Medicine & Vestibular Research Laboratory (AMVRL) developed OCAT which now enables researchers to quantify and detect alterations in cognitive and oculometric performance.
Administered using a Virtual Reality (VR) headset or on a standard laptop, OCAT works by showing a test subject one stimulus at a time in specific, seemingly random locations.
EyeTechDS Inc.’s eye tracker detects where the eye is focusing from one fixation point to the next. A normal test subject will show results of straight lines efficiently connecting one fixation point to another. In a patient with signs of impairment, these lines become altered due to changes in oculometric and cognitive performance.
What if your car could tell if you’re happy, sad, or too tired or impaired to drive?
EyeTechDS Inc. visual tracking software uses occulometrics track eye movement and pupil dilation gauging the drivers attention or lack thereof while driving. Noldus Facial recognition software recognizes a smile or slack facial expressions, head pose, eye perclose and many other useful metrics which will be helpful for ADAS. Results are graphed to show a drivers attention and emotions while behind the wheel.
Noldus “FaceReader automatically analyzes 6 basic facial expressions, neutral, contempt, and boredom, interest, and confusion.”1 Widely used in marketing application FaceReader is able to “quickly gain insight into the effects of different stimuli.”1
Potential application include luxury auto manufacturers who will be able to accurately gauge a level of satisfaction and distractions from the driving experience, while restricted drivers could have more than a simple breathalyzer restricting their cars from starting. Further advancements in automated driving could tell the car when it's time to take over driving to deliver passengers to a safe location eliminating falling asleep behind the wheel.
